Melbourne by Night – 8th May 2013

Share

It was an ‘almost’ still night on the Yarra at Batman Avenue, with an occasional disturbance on the water by a water fowl or some other nocturnal creature.

Could not resist the temptation to stop and take a couple of photos, dodging a few of the committed night cyclists that left me wondering as to what takes up all their time during daylight hours! Perhaps, the track is devoid of people, nothing like a good work out after a good dinner, or just an addiction.

Here are a few of photos of the CBD, the AAMI Park, the Morrell Bridge and Batman Avenue.  The Bridge has an inscription of the year 1499, however Wikipedia states that it was completed in 1899,  was originally the Anderson Bridge, renamed in 1936 after Sir Stephen Morell a prominent businessman and Lord Mayor of Melbourne from1926 to 1928. The bridge is heritage listed. It is interesting to read of the history of the Bridge – here is a link  http://home.vicnet.net.au/~aholgate/jm/texts/asbhist.html
