16th May 2015 – At the Chappel on Chappel MONIQUE diMATTINA – AN AFFAIR TO DISMEMBER AND JULES BOULT & THE REDEEMERS
Extract from the Programme guide
“….Acclaimed songwriter and pianist Monique diMattina reprises her sell-out show An Affair to Dismember – a comic sonic history of heartbreak, with a twist ending you won’t forget. Hear how they did it in 1915! Hear them break up in Paris, New Orleans and Dubbo, via Django Reinhardt, Nina Simone, Paul Kelly and more. diMattina’s piano is elegant and inventive, her voice reminiscent of Billie Holiday and Rickie Lee Jones,
and her catchy ‘Dylanesque swagger with the Aussie vernacular’ has earned her a national reputation as a songwriter par excellence. She is joined by an all-star band of longtime collaborators – James Sherlock on guitar, Paul Williamson on tenor saxophone/clarinet, Eamon McNelis on trumpet and Howard Cairns on bass/sousaphone.
Opening the night, Jules Boult and the Redeemers bring their popular repertoire of traditional blues, joined by Mirko Guerrini, considered by many to be Italy’s finest tenor sax player, who now calls Australia home.
