16th January 2012
Day one of the Australian Open. I went to the evening session, the formal opening of the Australian Open 2012. Roger Federer SUI (3) played Alexander Kudryavtsev RUS which Roger won comfortably 7-5, 6-2, 6-2. A pretty non-eventful match that played out as predicted although it went to 7-5 in the first set.
The seat I had, on the topmost row was not conducive for taking good photos. However I took a few from this furthest distance from the action with a 105mm, an ISO of 6400 and a shutter speed that struggled to go beyond 30. The Canon 5D could not do better than that, I also used a Canon G9 to take a few shots and will attach a few here.
The evening session kicked in with a song from Daryl Braithwaite. The roof top was closed and it was a good thing, as outside swarms of locusts took to the bright lights and the Sea Gulls had a great dinner. The Margaret court lights were left on to possibly draw the locusts from other courts. One look inside, and the Cleaners will have a hard time cleaning the mess.
I did not stay long to watch the Caroline Wozniaki – Anastasia Rodionova match and chose to go to show court 3 where Alize Comet FRA was playing Monica Niculescu ROU.
I plan to visit on any 5 days in the next few days and will post a few photos.
