This is an annual event at Federation Square in Melbourne’s iconic Federation Square.
In spite of the occasional rain forecast for the afternoon, it did not hold back the Indian Community and others from attending, one of the best festivals to be held at this iconic Square. The rain stayed away during the important times of the festivities especially during the lighting of the Diwali Lamp by the Premier of Victoria, Hon Daniel Andrews and Chairman Arun Sharma, of Celebrate India.
On stage, at various times during the festival, a variety of Dance forms were performed by the students of the many Dance Associations in Victoria, ranging from Indian Classical to Bollywood and the fusion of many Dance genres in between.
Apart from the many stalls with Indian Merchandise, Arts and Crafts, Indian food stalls by the banks of the Yarra – had traditional food specialities from the North to the South, East and West of India of which Melbournians are more than familiar with.
The festivities started at around 11 AM and wound up at 9:20 PM with a 10 minute spectacular display of fireworks.
