The Main road. Poor sanitation and illegal dumping of rubbish greet tourists who come to see the remnants of a a bygone era, the Fort, and the graveyards of its former inhabitants, the Dutch, Portuguese and British.

A well protected sign posted by the Archeological Survey of India, outside the Fort, that warns anyone defacing the monument of imprisonment upto 3 months and a possible fine of Rs5000.
